‘Costume Textile Artists’ or ‘Ager/Dyers’ could be best described as the art department of the costume world. This very specific, behind-the-scenes niche involves extensive knowledge of painting, colour theory, dyeing techniques, breaking down fiber, using tone for lighting purposes, creating embellishment on fabrics, simulating sweat, blood, mud, bullet wounds, and other wear, tear, and abuse garments get in everyday life. It also requires a deeper, psychological understanding of how the actor, and character, will wear it and what application is key for the garment to tell its’ own, subtle but very important story.

Killers Of The Flower Moon - Wedding Scene

Costumes for the film, particularly the wedding scene, were a layered process at the hand of many artisans. Traditional broadcloth is very heavy wool. For the actresses, the designer decided to use a lesser-weight wool with a lighter drape, however that fabric didn’t have the traditional delegation stripe on the selvage (bottom of the skirt). Caitley’s task was drafting and painting the delegation stripes onto the selvage of the lighter weight skirts to make them look like the 'woven' broadcloth, and not painted.

Some of Caitley’s favourite Walking Dead projects are all in this one image. She’s aged/distressed/painted and hand stitched details on multiples of Daryl's jackets, pants, and the infamous angel-winged vest. However, Yumiko's jacket was quite the adventure as well. Making this brand new leather coat look weathered and badass in less than an hour, on set, in a field, at night, by the light of a cell phone, in the middle of nowhere was quite the challenge. But thanks to teamwork, the jacket made it onto the actress and in front of camera just in time!(2018 AMC Photo)
